LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — On the morning of Aug. 1, 1783, Gen. George Washington visited the home of George Herkimer as part of his visit to the Mohawk Valley region.
The home had belonged to George Herkimer’s brother: Gen. Nicholas Herkimer, who died from injuries sustained from the Battle of Oriskany six years earlier. The breakfast — which occurred 233 years ago — was documented by Count Francesco dal Verme as he traveled with Washington on his northern tour.
